EAZILINK v4
-----------
This is EaziLink version 4. Version 4 represents a significant
advance over version 3 in several areas - particularly the script
language, high-speed modem support and terminal emulations.
PLEASE NOTE
-----------
If you are currently using EaziLink V3.x please note that:
1) The dialling directory entry format is different to that used in
version 3 - you MUST use the DIRCON2 utility supplied to convert
old v3 directories to the new v4 format (see DIRCON2.DOC).
2) The EAZILINK.CNF file format has changed - you will have to delete
the old CNF file and configure EaziLink v4 from scratch.
4) Please read the documentation carefully. In addition to the obvious
additions and improvements, many subtle changes have been made to old
facilities - please check the documentation before you declare that
something is not working as it should.
NOTE: Installation of EaziLink v4 on a hard disk or large capacity floppy
can be facilitated by using INSTALL.EXE as described in INSTALL.DOC and
the EaziLink manual.
Mar 92 First public release of EaziLink v4.0
Sep 92 EaziLink v4.1 released - modified as follows:
1) The online screen write routine has been reworked.
most users will see little change but those with a slow
video BIOS could benefit from as much as 40% faster screen
writes whilst online.
2) EaziHost now 'plugs' low memory holes between device
drivers/TSRs to remove the rare possibliity of the shell-
out mechanism locking up if such holes, over a certain
size, exist.
3) The mouse support in v4.0 could cause characters to be lost
on some systems running at high baud rates. Provided that
the mouse is not used whilst actually receiving characters,
this should now be cured in v4.1. Mouse support will only
work if a suitable recent Microsoft (or compatible) mouse
driver is installed. If mouse support in EaziLink does not
work, run the MOUSECHK utility which will tell you why.
4) In ANSI-BBS mode EaziLink now responds to ANSI support
interrogation from a remote host with a suitable device
response, informing the host that it is capable of ANSI
emulation. In v4.0 only VT100 emulation did this.
5) It is now possible to run external Zmodem protocols in
auto-download mode. In this mode EaziLink recognises
the Zmodem header transmitted by a remote system and
automatically invokes Zmodem from within EaziLink to
receive the files without the need to press PGDN as is
usually the case.
This can be a nice idea but it is possible for people to
put the Zmodem header character string in a message on a
board which will invoke your Zmodem download - Harmless
fun to them no doubt but still annoying. By default the
auto-download mode is disabled - To enable it you must
make a small change to your Zmodem definition in
EAZILINK.PRO like this:
/ DSZ Zmodem
/ ----------
name Zmodem>
hotkey Z
upload etc...
download etc...
Note that all that needs to be added is the '>' symbol to
the end of the 'name' field. This symbol is stripped off
after being read-in and will not show on your protocol
menu within EaziLink. The '>' could be added to your
DSZ, GSZ, PCZ or Texas Zmodem - Whichever you prefer to
use.
